Rendezvous – The Murf (Timothy Allan Remix)
by TA on Oct.29, 2011, under Uncategorized
Not every day I get to see my name underneath John Digweed and Nick Muir! All the remixes for this fantastic track are now available on Beatport and iTunes! Preview is through the link as well.
On with the promo copy!
The track itself follows a minimalist pulse that brings to mind the likes of Kraftwerk and Underworld and like the duo’s other recordings, it nods its hat not only to the early electro pioneers but early progressive rock and chillwave. This is undoubtedly a classic sound, the two piece playing the vast majority of instruments on the record themselves live in the studio, yet again fusing the digital with the traditional to great effect, bringing an organic approach to dance music.
Accompanied by a series of remixes, The Murf is expected to be a big club chart success. Carl Cox recently featured the band on a 2CD compilation for Space where he included one of the two remixes he contributed to their last single. This time around John Digweed, Nick Muir, Loverush UK! and Timothy Allan are on remix duties.
With massive coverage already in place on key radio shows and from the likes of tastemaker’s bible DJ Mag, Rendezvous’ profile is only expected to grow further with The Murf.
Mixing Electronic Music – Video Tutorials
by TA on May.28, 2011, under Uncategorized

The first in a brand new series of video tutorials for you! Check out how I mixed down my remix of the classic track “Fine Day”, almost 4 hours of pure mixing goodness! Check out the press release below:
GO FROM RAW TO DANCE FLOOR
World-class remixer extraordinaire Timothy Allan is back with a series that will reveal all there is to make a huge, modern sounding electronic dance track right in your DAW. He begins with his remix of the classic dance track “Fine Day” in raw, multi-track form, and mixes from the bottom up, showing you all of his trade secrets along the way.
Shown in Logic, but applicable to any DAW, Tim covers the basics first, such as organizing the session, setting up sidechains, aux tracks for effects and the master bus configuration. Next, he works the kick drum, then whips up a rough mix, and hones in on all the individual elements such as vocals, percussion, synths, bass, pads and strings. He then wraps it up with vocal and effect tweaks that make huge differences in the mix, special kick and bass compression, automation and more.
If you’re striving for that “radio ready” sound and a mix that sounds huge in the clubs, this collection of video tutorials is a must see. After absorbing and applying Tim’s techniques, your electronic music tracks will sound more professional and stand out in the sea of music productions.

Timothy Allan – Bring it Back / Pony Up
by TA on Nov.19, 2010, under Releases, TA

TA originals hot off the press! Here’s the word from the lads at Audio Therapy:
Originally from Canada but now residing in beautiful Melbourne Australia, producer Timothy Allan has been popping up on our radar quite a bit recently with his acclaimed remixes of Empire Of The Sun, Seaman & Funkagenda and Dirty South. So much so, we decided it was high time we invited him to hop aboard our merry bus of acid house revelry and join the Therapy fold.
He duly obliged and above and beyond the call of duty, he has done us proud with a couple of storming cuts that have been two of our very own Dave Seaman’s secret weapons in recent weeks. ‘Pony Up’ is a genre straddling peak timer driven by an hypnotic percussive riff and featuring a couple of explosive drops whilst ‘Bring It Back’ is a barnstorming slice of main room tech house that weaves it’s way to yet another dancefloor destroying payoff. Seriously guys, these are not to be missed. Our casa es su casa!
For further evidence, check out this little vid of Mr Seaman playing Pony Up in Mexico recently…

Timothy Allan- Angry Birds Remix (Free!)
by TA on Nov.01, 2010, under Promo, TA

Well, what can I say. I had some time on the holidays with just my iPhone and a laptop and did this little number. It’s a full club mix of Rovio’s Angry Birds theme song, probably suited more to the prog/tech/house guys. Rovio has nothing to do with this, it wasn’t a commission or paid work.
Edit: Tiesto just played this on his Club Life radio show. Awesome. Tracklist

Dave Seaman & Funkagenda – Mighty Ming (Timothy Allan Remix)
by TA on Jul.18, 2010, under Promo, Releases, TA

Out July 21, 2010 on the slamming Toolroom Records is the re-rub by Dave and Funkagenda, with myself and D. Ramirez on the remix duties.
Two of house music’s most highly sought after talents in Funkagenda and Dave Seaman team up for
Toolroom Trax’s next release, a devilishly dark re-rub of ‘The Mighty Ming’.
Having conquered both the underground and commercial floors, Dave Seaman has enjoyed success for well over a decade with remixes and productions for the likes of New Order through to Michael Jackson and shows no intention of resting on his laurels with this superb release. Funkagenda continues to impress with his unique, forward-thinking productions and stunning DJ sets moving the biggest global dancefloors from Ministry of Sound, London to Space, Ibiza.
‘The Mighty Ming’ is a monstrous track that takes you on a dark and distinctive foray into some gritty tones. A sharp, resonating bass grinds away beneath some tight beats and oriental tinted percussion. Eastern tinged stabs punch through the mix with vocal cuts and side-chained pads propelling this into a peak time bomb.
On remix duties is the sublime D.Ramirez, providing a mighty remix in his own inimitable style. He combines an old school flavour with warm, crisp synths and a euphoric breakdown that will have the party-goers raising their hands in the air. Timothy Allan completes the remix package on a deeper note with flickering percussion, deep bass tones and a mix of arpeggios and driving synths making for a great take on the original.

The KULT of Timothy Allan
by TA on Apr.25, 2010, under Releases, TA
It’s about time I released some original material! Out today on the lovely KULT records is an album containing 4 brand new originals, and 4 instrumentals of vocal remixes I’ve done in the recent past. Every now and then KULT records in NY do an artist series where they release an artist album entitled “The KULT of xxx”. Well, it’s my turn to be xxx.
They’re all tunes I’m really happy with, my best work to date. They range from cruisy mellow melodic prog/tech to big room banging club. All the tracks all full club mixes as well, perfect for playing out. If I was to pull out some comparison names it’d have to be folks like Booka Shade, Chris Lake, Anjunabeats, even some Axwell.
No previews here, but there are full previews of all the tracks on Beatport, check it out here: Beatport!

Producing House Music With Ableton Live: Bass and Synth
by TA on Feb.10, 2010, under Releases, TA, Video
You asked for more video tutorials, and now they’re back!
My first video in the series was so well received, and so many people asked for a second one… that I’ve decided to do another! This whole video focuses on tips for Synths and Bass for House and EDM in general.
As with my first video in the series, this one is aimed towards beginner to intermediate producers who want to fast-track the production learning curve. However, in some sections I’ve tried to cater for all levels, so I’m sure that even the more experienced producers will also gain a tip or two.
Here’s the scoop on what’s included:
Almost 2 and 1/2 hours of tutorials covering goodies such as:
Making a Bass from any Sample
Tuning Sampled Bass
Bass Keying with the Drums
Bass EQ without an EQ
Bass Layering
Resampling Bass Notes
Frequency Splitting
Sidechaining Bass
Sequencing Basslines
MIDI Resampling
Sequence using your Voice
Filter & Env Modulation
Break it Down
Sub Bass Tips
Sub Bass Kick
Synth Swells
Matching Kick & Bass
Dubstep & Wobble Basslines
Creating a Bass Bomb
Some of the tips involving complex midi routing etc are pretty Live specific, but I’d say that 85% of the content can be applied to any DAW.
Preview video and more info can be found here:

Fiord – Keen String (Timothy Allan Remix)
by TA on Jan.08, 2010, under Releases, TA

Out now on Open Records is a remix i’ve done for the Fiord boys which was one of the winners of their remix contest they held a while back. I’m just waiting for the mastered version and you’ll be able to check a preview and hit up Beatport if you are… keen on it… HARHAR! Beatport link is HERE and the official release info is below:
It is in this party spirit that Open Records is giving our fans both at home and abroad a special Christmas treat in the shape of Fiord’s Keen String Remixes EP, featuring 7 top tracks including four winners from our remix competition earlier this year.
The end result was almost overwhelming and with over 200 entries from all corners of the globe, we decided the standard was so high to declare four equal winners in a variety of styles to join Open Records artists Fiord, GMJ and Eegor on our final release for 2009.
Canadian-born, Melbourne-based producer Timothy Allan immediately impressed with his sophisticated melodic progressive house interpretation, while another Melbourne producer, Blinky, also proved he is a name to watch with a driving progressive techno bomb.
Mexico’s Interactive Noise caught our ear with a big outdoor festival stormer, while New Zealand act Opiuo rounds the EP off in spectacular style with a glitchy, bass-heavy broken beat monster that has been tried and tested at events all over the globe.
Open Records are proud to work with these exciting artists and thanks everyone for their efforts in the Keen String Remix Competition.
